As artificial intelligence (AI) advances rapidly and weaves into daily life, it is becoming a powerful tool to assist human learning and creativity. On July 26, the Fo Guang Shan Chicago Buddhist Temple hosted an interactive workshop titled “Exploring the Infinite Possibilities of AI: Creative Applications in Daily Life.” The event featured guest lecturers Angelie Huang from the Department of Applied Informatics and Jasmine Yu from the Department of Communication at Fo Guang University, who guided participants through hands-on activities to explore how AI can be applied in everyday life and creative arts.
The workshop offered hands-on experience across various domains—including recipe generation, creative writing, graphic design, and AI-driven music generation—illustrating how technology not only boosts efficiency but also serves as a smart assistant to spark innovation. During the design session, Angelie Huang led attendees in brainstorming stories with AI and translating written concepts into dynamic visual artwork. Participants watched their ideas instantly transform into vivid imagery, experiencing firsthand the charm of technological creativity. The music composition segment was equally well-received, enabling attendees without formal musical backgrounds to create customized music tracks through AI.
Community participants praised the interactive workshop for being engaging, practical, and accessible for all ages. With just a few simple prompts, AI generated cute and creative posters, allowing everyone to experience the convenience and joy that modern technology brings. Fang-He Lin, President of the Chicago Floral Art Club, sought to showcase the art of flower arrangement using AI; guided by the lecturers, participants inputted descriptions of floral materials, stylistic themes, and artistic concepts, prompting AI to generate stunning visual artwork that highlighted technology’s ability to turn creative visions into reality.
The lecturers reminded attendees that while AI excels at inspiring ideas, users must maintain critical judgment and use technology wisely without replacing human thought. The workshop provided participants with a clear understanding of emerging AI technologies while opening new horizons for personal creativity, embodying the temple’s commitment to guiding the public toward continuous learning and growth through diverse educational initiatives.
