“In the field of the Triple Gem, merits are easily sown; one penny given yields ten thousand in return. If you doubt this, look to Emperor Wu of Liang—a simple gift of a straw hat eventually led to his rule over the mountains and rivers.”Generosity is the starting point for achieving both fortune and wisdom. Giving is like planting a seed in the earth; through the nourishment of irrigation and care, it eventually bears abundant fruit.

The practice of generosity is central to the Buddhist path. Throughout history, the Great Sages who gave rise to the Bodhi Mind used generosity as their primary skillful means to help all sentient beings. Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan, taught: “Generosity is not limited to money or material goods. Giving someone a smile, a kind word, or a helping hand are all wonderful forms of giving.”However, the continued propagation of the Dharma and the upkeep of our sacred sanctuary rely on the support of the community. Every act of generosity is a practice of compassion; every donation is an investment in the continuity of the Dharma.
