On December 7 and 8, twenty-five BLIA chapters and temples across North America held the “2024 North America Buddhist Exam.” Over 2,000 participants joined the examination online, with candidates ranging in age from 4 to 90 years old. The exam was offered in English, French, and Chinese, with an additional online Dharma exchange session for the English adult group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exam materials included Vimalakirti Sutra: Joyful Cultivation in the Human World<\/em>, Volume 6 of the Fo Guang Textbook<\/em>, and the English version of Real Buddha Dharma 4<\/em>. For the children and youth categories, the curriculum focused on Cloud and Water Zen<\/em>, based on Real Buddha Dharma<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Under the guidance of Head Priest Venerable Yung Han, BLIA Chicago members spent several months in study and discussion groups. This collective effort significantly enhanced their wisdom and understanding of the principles, faith, and practice of Humanistic Buddhism. Before the exam, the Venerable encouraged everyone to relax, emphasizing that the focus was not on scores but on deeply entering the treasury of sutras and integrating Buddhist wisdom into daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The newly appointed President of the First Subchapter, Tu-Hao Chen, remarked that the questions regarding Vimalakirti\u2019s “silence like a clap of thunder” demonstrated how silence can be a powerful form of teaching\u2014much like the “Flower Sermon”\u2014representing the highest realm beyond words. Piao-Jin Xu, President of the Second Subchapter, joined the English group with his sister Ann. They noted that using the Kahoot<\/strong> app to share Dharma insights with BLIA members across North America was a truly enjoyable experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bin Wang, the new President of the Third Subchapter, noted that the online format combined technology with environmental protection. This practical application reflected the “Non-duality” philosophy of integrating tradition with modernity advocated in Venerable Master Hsing Yun\u2019s Vimalakirti Sutra: Joyful Cultivation in the Human World<\/em>. Bin-Xin Wang, a White Elephant Executive of the Chicago YAD, organized online courses for youth members to boost their confidence. YAD President Bin-Yi Wang added that the Chicago youth approached the exam with both enthusiasm and rigor, finding the study of new materials alongside peers to be a joyful and auspicious experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The participants expressed their gratitude to the organizing teams across North America for their collective creativity and selfless dedication, bringing the 2024 Buddhist
