On December 14, 2025, the Buddha\u2019s Light International Association (BLIA) Chicago Chapter held its “7th 3rd Annual General Meeting and Board Election” at the Fo Guang Shan Chicago Buddhist Temple. Despite the winter chill and a temperature of 8\u00b0F, nearly 60 members attended the event. Online participants joined from Nanjing (China), Washington State, Ohio, and Oklahoma, witnessing this significant milestone for the chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting opened with an inspirational video by the founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Following the video, Chicago Chapter President Ke-Ying Wang delivered a speech expressing gratitude to the members for their hard work over the past year, which has allowed the seeds of Humanistic Buddhism to take deep root. During the session, various subchapters reported on their activities, discussed proposals, and welcomed new members through an initiation oath, bringing new vitality to the association. In addition, certificates of appreciation were presented to community members who have long supported the propagation of the Dharma, highlighting the harmonious interaction between the temple and the community. Steve Haverkos and Biao-Jin Xu were appointed as Subchapter Superintendents and received their certificates from the President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Venerable Yung Han, Head Priest of Fo Guang Shan Chicago, presented the sash and certificate to Sandy Huang, the first Chairperson of the Council of Superintendents, encouraging her to lead members in passing on their experiences. The 2025 Outstanding Member Awards were presented to Fang-Yuan Xie, Jin-Ying Xu, Zong-Xian Xu, and Dean Isensee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the digital age, this board election fully adopted electronic voting. All members operated the system via their mobile phones, and the results were displayed on the large screen in real-time. This process was open, fair, transparent, and efficient, demonstrating the spirit of Humanistic Buddhism where “technology and faith go hand in hand.” The newly elected board members unanimously re-elected Ke-Ying Wang as President, with Han-Zhong Feng and Zong-Xian Xu serving as Vice Presidents to assist in chapter affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finally, Venerable Yung Han encouraged everyone, stating that as times change, we need to establish a new vision and continuously improve ourselves to face the world with a more open mind. She noted that the theme of the 2025 BLIA World Headquarters General Conference is “Harmony and Peace,” serving as a reminder to start with inner joy and peace. Only when everyone achieves inner peace and harmony\u2014embodying Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teaching of “You are well, I am well, and everyone is well”\u2014can the world truly achieve peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
