Amidst global economic instability and rising inflation, this lifestyle lecture provided comprehensive guidance on financial management, including Social Security, Medicare, long-term care, annuities, retirement planning, inheritance, and education savings.

Venerable Jue Lin, then Head Priest, remarked that Buddhism teaches that when the mind is at peace, the body will follow. She encouraged everyone to be prepared for future challenges through professional planning. Since the pandemic began, FGS Chicago has hosted numerous online Dharma and lifestyle lectures to help the public find stability through both spiritual and practical knowledge. Mrs. Chen, currently with Merrill Lynch, noted that as a consumer-driven economy, understanding future consumer trends is essential for making informed decisions in investment, employment, and business opportunities.

The lecture highlighted that society has entered an era of rapid transformation. Traditional energy sectors like oil and gas will face challenges, increasing the demand for renewable and circular resources. Mrs. Chen also analyzed “Generation Z,” noting their pragmatic consumer behavior and focus on product quality and value. In the financial industry, managing the retirement funds of Baby Boomers and the family planning of Millennials will be key growth areas.

For many, retirement is no longer just a sign of aging but the start of a new life chapter. Mrs. Chen emphasized that retirement security depends not on how much one earns, but on how much has been accumulated. She advised calculating whether current savings, bonds, and cash can cover expenses for several years to avoid being forced to sell stocks during a market downturn. She specifically listed ten common mistakes to avoid in retirement planning:

Failing to designate beneficiaries for retirement accounts.

Lack of tax planning for inherited retirement accounts.

Directly rolling a deceased spouse’s account into one’s own without professional advice.

Not utilizing direct rollover methods.

Underutilizing Roth IRAs.

Failing to maximize contributions to all available retirement accounts.

Mistakenly believing a non-working spouse cannot establish a retirement account.

Withdrawing incorrect amounts from retirement assets.

Overlooking tax-advantaged charitable giving.

Withdrawing from retirement accounts prematurely.

During the two-hour session, Mrs. Chen analyzed financial management fundamentals, the importance of annual financial check-ups, and the strategic use of emergency funds. The participants gained not only practical financial knowledge but also renewed confidence and hope for their future financial planning in the post-pandemic era.

[67

post-2895","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-print-news
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",1038,614,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",512,303,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",512,303,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",768,454,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",512,303,false],"1536x1536":["http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",1038,614,false],"2048x2048":["http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",1038,614,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",370,219,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",362,214,false],"great_lotus-thumb-category-@retina":["http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",724,428,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",1038,614,false],"trx_addons-thumb-huge-@retina":["http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",1038,614,false
http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",770,455,false],"trx_addons-thumb-masonry-big-@retina":["http://www.ibpschicago.org/en-us/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/02-10.jpg",1038,614,false
["GET
